“We are excited to announce that we have come to an accord with the Food and Drug Administration.” (FDA), a Xikar spokesman said in a press release. They were asking to put what we thought was an excessive number of warnings on our boxes.
Unbeknownst to all but a few in the smoking industry, the Food and Drug Administration has shifted its focus to the cigar accessory market after its setback in the courts.
The FDA approached Xikar shortly after their trouncing in the courts. They were looking to force Xikar to start covering their accessory boxes with anti-smoking warnings. “We want 125% of the retail boxes covered in warnings.” When Xikar asked how it would even be possible to cover more than one hundred percent of the box, the FDA responded that they may “allow the warning label to overlap, after a lengthy review process.”
By working with the FDA, we jointly developed a revolutionary new cutter design we are all proud of. The Xikar Revolution is “almost unusable.” When the FDA trialed the cutter, they estimated that the time it takes to use the cutter will “significantly reduce the amount of time available to smoke a cigar, if not even turn a few smokers away from the activity altogether.”
